Good post, why are they getting rid of the fountain?
Luxor is in the middle of a major improvement scheme. lots of places coming down especially near the tombs and temples. The Karnak area is almost complete. to me its just been a scam the council building new shops etc and renting them out at excessive rates,all the shops in the area around the fountain have been emptied apart from 2 bookshops. next piece of land to this area was the new winter palace hotel. already been demolished there is a photo of it on the first nile life blog. some say luxor has 50 billion to spend on modernization. look at my myegypt.co.uk web site on pollution of the nile to see the results of modernization in Luxor.here is a lot on the modernization of luxor on the old blog this is on the new winter palace
